Why “Teal” – Mentoring ?

Carl Jung believed that dreaming is our subconsciousness communicating with consciousness. Biblically, dreams are a medium through which God communicates. Often times, it is both. The story of why I chose teal began this way.

Roughly 18 years ago, I dreamed I was in a group of people in a room. Each person was represented as a color, and each color represented our most outstanding character trait. For some people the color was red, and it represented assertiveness and grace, for others it was green, because they were nurturing, and growth minded. Others had other colors that represented their outstanding trait.

We as a group were being vetted for a purpose by something angelic, and one by one, people were being disqualified based on the choices they made in life. Many were being disqualified, and soon there were only three of us left, each of us a different color. Eventually, I was the only one left in the room, a person of the color Teal. I was told that my outstanding trait was humility.

The dream didn’t end there. Without giving away too much, I was selected for a purpose to confront horrible things that had destroyed a great many men.

Why is humility in particular a trait that gave me such an advantage? The Bible mentions that humility positions us for promotion (James 4:10, 1 Peter 5:6, etc.). Although it is not my intention to understate how powerful those Scriptures are, in a practical sense, I would like to instead ask what exactly humility does for us and in the world around us?

Moses, who to many is the supposed author of the first 5 books in the Bible writes
“Moses was the most humble man in all the world… “ (Numbers 12:3)”. There is reason to believe that Humility is a trait that accurately estimates one’s own significance. Pride inflates oneself beyond what is true, and fear or depression deflates oneself beyond what is true. Humility is a force that wars against these things, stands up for one’s own limitations and personal potential. It prevents oneself from running into temptations, challenges, terrors and discouragements. It prevents oneself from being swayed by people and pressures that want to flatter us, manipulate us, or destroy us.

Teal Mentoring is the work of finding where Christ is working in a person, discovering what He desires to express and create in a client, and creating a framework of correct identity, which, if done right, will fit well within the definition of the trait of humility, so that they can walk a confident, stable inner life.
